There were 14 travelers scheduled to spend 7-10 days in Ghana, optionally in Togo and Benin. The journey began well before us arriving in Accra Ghana. Jelani Travel actively corresponded with this group to prepare for the trip - passports, visas, travel expectations and packing. Jelani Travel was also very responsive to inquiries and provided great advice. Our group of travelers stayed connected through a common "Whats App" group, often getting new communication, sharing photos, and much more.
Upon arriving in Accra, Ghana, we were shuttled to the hotel and activities began that night with dinner. We had a complete itinerary of activities that allowed for eating, shopping, and exploring the richness and tenderness of Africa. We experienced the cuisine and the people. We found new friends and engaged in many conversations. We spent 7 days in Ghana (both Accra and Kumasi) - visiting cultural centers commemorating Kwame Nkrumah and W.E.B DuBois. We visited Cape Coast to visit the slave caves and more. We visited art centers and engaged with local vendors selling their wares and more. We dined at popular restaurants to taste the local cuisine. We walked the sands of Ghana. We participated in a naming ceremony and received our "birth" names.
Many of us continued to Togo and Benin. We experienced local customs in Togo - voodoo practices and more food. After 1 day in Togo, we then traversed to Benin. In Benin, we further immersed in the African cultures and saw the quickly advancing center of Benin.
Overall, the trip exceeded my expectations. Jelani Travel organized a great trip for both new and experienced travelers. There was adequate free time to indulge in the experience. The selection of meals was well received, allowing us to get the true "taste of Africa". We made new friends and found familiar stories to share. I look forward to using Jelani Travel on my next travel plans.
