Welcome to Cartagena! Upon arrival at Rafael Núñez International Airport (CTG), a private transfer will escort you to Hyatt Regency, where you’ll be welcomed with a cool towel and refreshing fruit juice. After check-in, take the afternoon to rest or enjoy a dip in the rooftop pool.

In the early evening, gather with the group for happy hour on the hotel’s rooftop. Sip on tropical cocktails like limonada de coco or mojitos while soaking in views of Cartagena.

✨ Travel Tip: Pack light, breathable clothing, but don’t forget your sun hat and sunglasses. Walking shoes are a must for cobblestone streets.

After breakfast, meet your guide for a private walking tour of Cartagena’s Walled City, a UNESCO World Heritage site filled with history, charm, and color. You’ll explore colonial architecture, the iconic Clock Tower Gate, and Plaza Santo Domingo. Your guide will point out hidden gems and photo-worthy balconies. You’ll also stop at Las Bóvedas, a historic arcade now home to local artisans and souvenir shops.

✨ Travel Tip: Wear a wide-brimmed hat and carry a bottle of water. The tour includes several shaded stops, but the Caribbean sun is strong.

After breakfast, depart on a guided tour to San Basilio de Palenque, a UNESCO-recognized village about 1.5 hours from Cartagena. This is the first free Black town in the Americas, founded by escaped enslaved Africans in the 17th century. History of the village will be explained, black power murals, drumming and dancing, lunch and some traditional sweets. Bring water and a hand fan. The bus ride takes about 1-1/2 hr.

You'll enjoy a traditional Palenquero lunch, with options like coconut rice, fried fish, and patacones (fried green plantains). A local music and dance performance will complete the experience.

Today is all about rest and rejuvenation. After breakfast, a short ride takes you to the peaceful shores of Tierra Bomba Island. No speedboats needed—your private group transfer ensures a comfortable ride across calm waters.

You'll spend the day at a beach club where you’ll have access to cabanas. Enjoy a fresh lunch with options like grilled seafood, salads, and tropical juices.

Relax, read a book, or take a dip in the sea.

✨ Travel Tip: Bring sunscreen and cash for tips or cocktails. The bus ride to the dock takes about 10 min followed by a 45 min speedboat ride to the island. Lobster and other seafood will be available for purchase.

You will climb a staircase to the top of the volcano and then descend a ladder into the mud pit. The mud is naturally warm, providing a soothing experience. The high density of the mud allows you to float effortlessly. The bus ride is about 45 minutes.

✨ Travel Tip: Wear clothing that you don't mind getting muddy/stained. Bring a change of clothes. Protect your hair with a scarf or swimming cap. Borrow a towel from the hotel.

After one last breakfast at the hotel, say goodbye to Cartagena. Your driver will transfer you to Rafael Núñez International Airport (CTG) for your return flight home.

Arrive to Rafael Núñez International Airport (CTG) by 200 pm on July 1, 2026 and depart on July 6, 2026.

Room Occupancy

Trip price is based on double occupancy and priced per person. Individuals who purchase double occupancy and traveling without a roommate, will be paired with a roommate if available on a first come first serve basis. If a roommate is not available, you will be required to purchase the single occupancy supplement.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance covering all applicable dates of any travel with Jelani Travel is required. We strongly recommend that you purchase an additional comprehensive “cancel for any reason” insurance to the extent that such insurance is available under the laws governing your state.

Cancellation Policy

This trip is non-refundable and non-transferable

Payment Plan Policy

1. Three consecutive failures to pay scheduled installments will be subject to late fees up to $200, trip cancellation and loss of 100% of trip package price. 

2. Total balance must be paid at least 90 days prior to the trip start date, or be subject to late fees up to $200. 

3. If total balance is not received at least 60 days prior to the trip start date, the trip will be subject to cancellation and loss of 100% of trip package price.

Please note all packages are based on double occupancy and priced per person. If you want to lodge by yourself, you will need to first choose your package and then add the Single Occupancy Supplement. 

2. Create an account 

When checking out, you should check the box next to "Create an account to manage your booking online." This will allow you to edit, adjust your trip, and select additional options at a later date.

3. Processing fees 

When proceeding to payment, please note that there is no processing fee if you pay by ACH using your banking information. There is a processing fee if you choose to pay by credit or debit card.

4. Payment Plan

Each payment plan is set up for automatic payments on specific dates. You can call or email us after you register to adjust your payment dates in a way that works best for you. 

5. Questionnaire

Answer the short questionnaire required for every participant.

6. Confirmation email 

You will receive a confirmation email with your receipt, payment plan information, and the option to purchase travel insurance for this trip. We strongly recommend you purchase travel insurance to protect your investment.

7. Store your account info and password

You can go back to your account any time to check your balance, pay it off, or add additional options.

  • Passport: Must have 6 months validity after date of arrival and 1 blank page for entry stamp. Confirm validity at travel.state.gov

  • Visa: Not required for U.S. citizens for stays under 90 days.

  • Vaccination: No required vaccinations.

  • Travelers must complete Migración Colombia’s Online Check-Mig Form within 72 hours of boarding an inbound or outbound flight from Colombia. There is no fee to complete the form.
